A Celebration of Diversity
Diversity is an important part of the culture at Elmhurst College. On our campus, you'll find a community of bright, curious, committed students from many states and countries, of all ages, and from every religious, racial and ethnic background. We embrace individual expression in an atmosphere of mutual respect, and we see our differences as sources of strength.
What’s more, we offer a wide range of programs and resources designed to celebrate our diversity, foster intercultural understanding and support the expression of cultural identity. For example, the Office of Intercultural Student Affairs sponsors retreats, lectures and movie screenings that encourage discussion and tolerance. Student groups such as the Black Student Union and the Coalition for Multicultural Empowerment promote awareness and understanding.
Several academic programs also support cultural exploration. The major in intercultural studies uses an interdisciplinary and developmental model to examine cultures, power, prestige, privilege, group interrelationships and cross-cultural interactions. And numerous study-away opportunities invite you to immerse yourself in a new culture and gain a global perspective.
