Working with Your Advisor

At Elmhurst College, you will have the opportunitiy to work closely with an advisor to make thoughtful decisions about your academic endeavors, maximize your educational possibilities, and construct your own unique Elmhurst Experience.

If you’re a new first-year student, the professor who teaches your First-Year Seminar will serve as your advisor for your entire freshman year. New transfer students are assigned an advisor in their major during the first few weeks of the term. Continuing upperclassmen are usually advised by faculty advisors in their major discipline.

You may meet with your advisor any time, but you definitely should schedule an advising appointment during the two- or three-weeks period prior to registration. See the Academic Calendar for registration dates, and be sure to schedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance.

Use the resources on BlueNet and the Elmhurst website to prepare for your advising appointment. Your advisor can help you with your major and Integrated Curriculum requirements as well as answer your questions or refer you to appropriate offices and services.

Your advisor can help you with:

While many people stand ready to help, the final responsibility for knowing and meeting graduation requirements rests with you.
