Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) Studies

The concentration in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) Studies engages students in critical analysis of contemporary issues within the intersections of gender and sexuality.

As part of the requirements for a minor in Intercultural Studies, the focus in LGBTQ Studies requires one or two of the following courses:

  • ICS 280/380 Intercultural Experiential
  • ICS 385 LGBTQ Identity: Individual and Communal Journeys (course is pending approval)
  • ICS 390 Special Topics: LGBTQ Studies (as arranged)
  • ICS 492 Independent Study (queer theory, LGBTQ histories, etc.)

    OR

One of the following courses, adapted as an LGBTQ Focus with cooperation of the course instructor and an ICS co-coordinator:

  • PSY 228 Psychology of Women (alternate J-terms only)
  • SOC 305 Sex and Gender in Society
  • REL 331 Christian Ethics and Human Sexuality
  • REL 363 Gender, Sexuality and Religion (as arranged)

An internship, field experience or international study may also be developed to fit individual needs.
