Inter-Religious Studies

U.S. Focus Option

An Inter-Religious Studies focus helps students to develop a better understanding of the major religions of the world. You’ll increase your understanding of the unique culture, within-group diversity, and social situation of world religious traditions and an awareness of the similarities and differences among world religious traditions.

As part of the requirements for a minor in Intercultural Studies, the focus in Inter-Religious Studies requires two of the following religion courses:

• REL 240 World Religions: General Introduction
• REL 241 Introduction to Judaism
• REL 242 Issues in Islam: Gender, Violence and Politics
• REL 243 Religions of India
• REL 244 Understanding the Qur'an
• REL 343 Islamic Mysticism and the Poetry of Rumi
• REL 346 African American Religious Traditions
