The Latin American area of study within the intercultural studies major or minor is aimed at developing student understanding of Latin American culture while gaining skills for communicating in the Spanish language.

For the major in intercultural studies with a focus in Latin American studies, choose three of the following in addition to the rest of the major requirements. As part of the requirements for the minor in intercultural studies, students enroll in two of the following courses:

HIS 170 Latin American History
HIS 309 History of Mexico
HIS 310 20th Century Revolutionary Latin America
SPN 334 Culture of Spanish America (highly recommended)
SPN 335 Spanish American Literature I
SPN 336 Spanish American Literature II
SPN 340 Indigenous Lit South & Central America
