Elmhurst College Integrated Curriculum

Proficiencies

The proficiency requirements are designed to make sure you have the tools you need to move forward in college and beyond. They are foundational to further academic success and should be addressed as soon as possible after you enter the College, and in any event no later than the end of the sophomore year. (Transfer students should meet the four proficiencies within the first year after admission.)

Specifically, you will need to demonstrate proficiency in the following subject areas:

  • Writing
  • Mathematics
  • Foreign language
  • Computer technology

Many students are able to demonstrate proficiency on one or more of these areas through placement tests, AP credit, previous coursework, or ACT or SAT scores. For more information, see Satisfying the Proficiency Requirements. The College also offers courses in these areas every term.

See Developmental Experiences, Areas of Knowledge, and Skill and Value Development (Tagged Courses) for additional Integrated Curriculum requirements.
