Major in Elementary Education

The program described below is no longer accepting new students. New students are encouraged to apply for the College's new major in elementary teacher education, which begins in Fall 2015.

For students looking to become the next generation of first to grade 6 school teachers, the major in elementary education prepares each student to have a strong understanding of elementary education content, the ability to recognize and assess the differences in learning and the educational needs of elementary-aged students. Students are also given the tools to engage and educate their future students to become creative and critical thinkers.

We offer a middle school approval that meets all State of Illinois requirements for students who are planning to teach at the middle-school level. All elementary education majors must complete a  minor or second major in addition to the education requirements for the major. Courses being applied to the minor must earn grades of C or higher.
