Major in American Studies

American studies is an interdepartmental major that draws upon the courses of several departments and allows students considerable flexibility and choice in structuring their program of study.

The major consists of nine courses. Of those nine courses, the student is required to take at least two in American history and one in American literature. The remainder of the courses may be selected from the list of classes below in consultation with the American studies advisor.
