What You'll Learn

The psychology major provides you with an understanding of the causes and consequences of human behavior through a detailed examination of the content and methods of scientific and applied psychology. You will study how people learn, think, perceive, behave, and interact with others in their environment.

Program alumni hold leadership positions in a wide range of fields, including business, education, human resources, health care, and social services. The major also is ideal for students planning to continue their education in psychology or another discipline at the graduate level. 

In this program, you will:

  • Master the fundamental theories and principles of psychology.
  • Apply psychological theories and research to everyday circumstances, e.g., the workplace and intercultural conflict
  • Examine the relevance of psychological theories to social issues.
  • Employ the scientific method to design research studies.
  • Learn to employ statistics and other appropriate methodology to interpret the results of research studies.
  • Critically evaluate and express psychological content in written and oral communication.
  • Understand the meaning of ethical and professional practice in psychology.
