All incoming first year students are required to take Mathematics and Foreign Language placement tests and the Computer Technology Proficiency test as part of the day-long program. Students with exceptionally strong writing skills may demonstrate their proficiency at the introductory level and place into the second level (English 106) composition course.
There are three ways you may demonstrate your writing proficiency:
- By taking the optional Writing Placement Test at the end of the day (3:15 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.) after your advising session
- If you have earned a 3 or above on the Advanced Placement English Language exam or a 5 or above on the International Baccalaureate English A1, A2 or B higher level exam
- If you have earned a composite ACT score of 29 or an SAT score of 1900 or above
