The Application Process

Applying for Graduate Programs

We try to make the application process as simple—and friendly—as possible. If you have questions along the way, please contact The School for Advanced Learning.


The preferred application deadlines are:

  • May 1, 2008 for the master's degree program in Industrial/Organizational Psychology
  • July 1, 2008 for all other graduate programs.

How to apply

To apply for admission to graduate study, submit the following to The School for Advanced Learning:

  • Your resume
  • Your scores on the GRE for those applying to the Master of Arts in Industrial/Organizational Psychology taken within the last five years.
  • Transcripts from all graduate and undergraduate institutions you have attended
  • Recommendations from three persons who can comment on the quality of your communication skills and on your ability to successfully complete graduate study
  • A 1,000-word statement of purpose, describing the personal and professional goals that you intend to meet by completing a graduate program; MBA students must respond differently as instructed on the application and described on the MBA program sheet 
  • A $25 application fee
  • An application

Additional Requirements for International Students

International students must also submit official transcripts, in English, with an evaluation of those transcripts by a foreign credentials evaluation agency, and proof of English proficiency, as evidenced by a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based TOEFL, 213 on the computer-based test, or 79 on the Internet-based test.

Conditional Admission

In two circumstances, a student may be considered for conditional admission to graduate study.

  • A currently enrolled student may be conditionally admitted to graduate study to enable the student to prepare academically for graduate work as part of the student's undergraduate program, with the assurance of being eligible for admission to graduate study.
  • An applicant in need of program-specific prerequisites may be conditionally admitted to take these required courses at Elmhurst College with the assurance of being eligible for admission to graduate study.

Provisional Admission

A student may be considered for provisional admission if he or she can document admissibility to a program but is unable to present all required documentation for admission in a timely way.
