Alternative Sources of Credit
Adult students arrive in class with an extensive base of knowledge—gained on the job, in their travels, and in family life. Bachelor of Liberal Studies Program
This program enables you to create a curriculum around your professional experiences and goals. Rather than choosing a major, you choose two concentrations from among 25 fields of study. You often can advance more quickly toward your academic goals by making extensive use of transfer credits, experiential learning credits, or both.

College Level Examination Program
Through CLEP, you may be able to earn college credit by passing an exam in a variety of subject areas. If you have a strong background in English literature, for example, you may wish to take the literature CLEP exam to earn a general education credit in that discipline. CLEP credit usually counts toward general education requirements or electives. It rarely is accepted for major credit. The CLEP Program is offered by the College Board, and is ideal for transfer students who have transferred the maximum number of credits and still need to complete some general education requirements.

Credit for Non-Collegiate Instruction
You may be eligible for college credit for course work completed through associations, corporations, unions, government agencies, and the military services. If you wish to be considered for such credit, please present the College with documentation of your course work when you submit your application for admission. Credit for non-collegiate instruction applies only to elective requirements and cannot duplicate any prior or required course work.

Credit for Experiential Learning
Some of your prior experiential learning may match one or two specific courses offered at Elmhurst College. You may participate in a petition process that in many cases leads to course credits for experiential learning.
