What You'll Learn

Elmhurst’s accelerated major in cyber security benefits working IT professionals, as well as those who wish to expand their cyber security knowledge. The curriculum includes coursework that builds a solid foundation in computer science and an introductory course in information processing—designed to prepare students who do not have an IT background for coursework that focuses on security.



In this program, you will:

  • Gain an understanding about computer organization and architecture, client/server programming, database management systems, computer networking and an introduction to JAVA programming.
  • Recognize potential security breaches in information systems and data networks and design effective preventative controls.
  • Apply risk evaluation techniques to identify and minimize threats to an organization.
  • Prepare a cogent disaster prevention and recovery plan.
  • Design an overall security infrastructure for an organization.
  • Understand the basics of cryptographic protocols, algorithms and techniques.
  • Analyze and investigate issues in cybercrime.
  • Upon completion of the accelerated major in cyber security, students will also receive an undergraduate level certificate in cyber security.
