Elmhurst Announces Scholarships for Community College Alumni

In conjunction with a statewide initiative to help community college students continue their education, Elmhurst College has established three new scholarships for individuals with associate’s degrees who transfer to Elmhurst to pursue a bachelor’s degree through one of the College’s accelerated programs.

The annual scholarships will be given to select students from Triton College and Oakton Community College who transfer to Elmhurst, as well as to qualified associate’s degree holders from any community college who are enrolled in the Elmhurst Management Program, an accelerated degree program in business management.

“Business and government leaders agree that the state’s economic success depends on well-educated workers, and an important part of that means helping more community college graduates to continue their studies and earn a bachelor’s degree,” said Timothy H. Ricordati, a Triton College alumnus and dean of Elmhurst College’s School for Professional Studies. “These scholarships are a great way for Elmhurst to work with two-year colleges to respond to that need and benefit students.”

Elmhurst College’s accelerated degree completion programs help students earn a bachelor’s degree quickly. Classes are held in the evenings and online to accommodate a variety of schedules. Offered through Elmhurst’s School for Professional Studies, accelerated degree completion programs are available in Business Administration (Elmhurst Management Program), Cyber Security, Digital Cinema, Information Technology, Organizational Leadership and Communication, and Pre-clinical Psychology.

More about the scholarships:

The Elmhurst College/Triton Alumni Council Scholarship, an annual award of $3,500, will be given to two outstanding Triton College alumni—one per term, in the fall and the spring–who are enrolled in one of Elmhurst’s accelerated degree completion programs. Recipients of the scholarship, which was initiated by Timothy H. Ricordati (Class of 1976), will be chosen by the Triton Alumni Council. “The Elmhurst College/Triton Alumni Council Scholarship is a wonderful opportunity that will support Triton College alumni in the pursuit of their academic goals at Elmhurst College,” said Lisa Scalessi, director of alumni relations at Triton. “We appreciate that Triton students are encouraged to complete an associate’s degree at Triton and also proceed to earn a bachelor’s degree at Elmhurst through this award. We are excited to recognize the success of our alumni and Elmhurst students through this scholarship opportunity.”

The Elmhurst College/Oakton Community College Alumni Council Scholarship, an annual award of $3,500, will be given to two outstanding Oakton Community College alumni—one per term, in the fall and the spring—who are enrolled in one of Elmhurst’s accelerated degree completion programs. Recipients will be selected by the Oakton Community College Alumni Council. “As the cost of higher education continues to rise and dwindling public funding erodes support for student financial assistance, our students are feeling the challenge to pay their tuition, and many must rely more and more on private resources,” said Elena Couto, manager of development and alumni relations for Oakton. “The Elmhurst College/Oakton Community College Alumni Council Scholarship expands the future of Oakton’s outstanding students by giving them a real opportunity to continue their education and reach their potential as our future leaders.” The scholarship was initiated by Oakton alumnus Tim Panfil (Class of 1988), director of enrollment management for Elmhurst College’s School for Professional Studies.

The Elmhurst Management Program Associate’s Degree Award is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to transfer students with an associate’s degree from any community college who are enrolled full time in the Elmhurst Management Program (accelerated business administration degree completion program) at Elmhurst College. All applicants who meet the criteria are reviewed for the awards, which generally are made at the time of admission.

The first round of scholarships will be awarded to students beginning this fall. The deadline for applications is July 15 for fall semester enrollment and December 1 for spring semester enrollment.
