Alumni Association Board Membership
If you prefer a leadership role, the Alumni Association is seeking committed, forward thinking individuals for its governing body, the Alumni Association Board. The Alumni Association Board serves as a vital link between Elmhurst College alumni and their Alma Mater; it also plays a key role in alumni program development, strategic planning and outreach to your fellow Bluejays. It is our strong desire to develop an Alumni Board which ideally reflects the diversity of Elmhurst’s alumni in terms of profession, geography and culture. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Alumni Board, download the Alumni Association Board Membership Application.

Alumni Association Ad Hoc Committees
Based on strategic priorities, the Alumni Association will be recruiting alumni to serve on ad hoc committees to advise the Association and the College. Alumni will be recruited to serve in these advisory roles as committees are needed.  Time and commitment to these committees will be based on the priorities and goals put forth.

Alumni Association Award Nominations and Committees
The Alumni Association sponsors the annual Alumni Merit Award, Faculty Merit Award, Rev. Buck/Alumni Association Student Award and the Senior of the Year Award.  Award winners are selected through a closed committee process, made up of alumni.  If you are interested in serving on a selection committee or nominating an alumnus/na for an award above, fill out the volunteer application or the nomination form on the Alumni Association page of the alumni website

Regional Leadership
Beginning in 2010, the Alumni Association will adopt a regional alumni program to connect alumni in cities across the country.  Regional leaders will act as a central contact for alumni in geographic areas with a concentration of Bluejays to help plan events to reconnect them with each other and the institution, despite their distance from campus.   If you are interested in serving as a regional leader and connecting with other Bluejay neighbors, please fill out the online application form.

Class Representatives
During the 12 to 18 months preceding a reunion, a committee of class representatives work closely with the Office of Alumni Relations to encourage attendance and plan activities to reacquaint classmates with one another and renew connections to Elmhurst College.  While the Office of Alumni Relations is responsible for the reunion’s logistics, class representatives are essential to make the reunion a success!

Alumni Affinity Group Volunteers
Affinity groups are segments of alumni who share a common bond based on a professional or academic affiliation, a sport, club or other College program. Members can enhance their careers, participate in activities and support academic departments and special programs. If you are interested in gathering other alumni together who are members of the same affinity, let us know. Some examples of affinities include various majors, sports teams, student activities, Greek organizations—the list is endless!

Special Event Volunteers
The Alumni Association and College host numerous special events throughout the year. If you are interested in serving on a planning committee or staffing a registration table at one of these events, let us know. Special events include Homecoming, Orientation, Met and Married, Professional Networking Events, Summer Extravaganza and everything in between.

Admission Volunteer
The Elmhurst College Office of Admission involves alumni in the nationwide effort to recruit future Bluejays. The primary function of an admission volunteer is to serve as a representative and ambassador of Elmhurst College by promoting awareness of the institution. Sharing your Elmhurst experiences gives prospective students an "inside look" into the academic and social life of the College. By acting as an admission volunteer you can be involved with the following:

Refer a Student
Do you know a student in high school or community college who ought to know about Elmhurst College? Tell us about them

Assist with Recruitment Efforts in your Area
Elmhurst College recruits students from across the country. As a volunteer, you can host prospective student receptions at your home, represent Elmhurst at a local college fair or simply meet and greet prospective students in your area.

Correspondence with Prospective Students
As an admission alumni volunteer, you will be provided with a list of prospective students to call whose geographic location or intended major is similar to your own. These calls will help the prospective student gain insight from you—a successful graduate of the institution, sharing your academic experience and answering any questions they may have.

Host a Summer Send-Off

Host a casual get-together for incoming freshmen and transfer students from your area before they leave for Elmhurst College. Give new students a chance to meet each other, current students and alumni as they become part of the EC community.

Alumni in the Classroom
Are you interested in speaking to a class of Elmhurst students or serving on an alumni panel?  The Alumni in the Classroom program matches interested alumni with student organizations, academic programs and alumni events to enhance the learning experience.  Matching alumni schedules with those of faculty and students can be a challenging task, but the Office of Alumni Relations will try our best to match alumni with professors as time and syllabi permit.

Athletics
Calling all sports fans—alumni are needed to assist at our games, volunteer at the annual Bluejay Backer Golf Outing and to help coordinate an athletic reunion.

Career Development
The Center for Professional Excellence (CPE) offers a wide array of opportunities for our alumni to advise and mentor students and fellow alumni.  Following are some of the opportunities available to you through the CPE:

Internships
Professionals are encouraged to hire Elmhurst College students for internship opportunities. Internships provide students with opportunities to explore occupational fields related to majors and career goals. The program is set up to guide students through intentional learning objectives, skill assessments, and performance evaluations. The experience should complement and enhance classroom learning while creating links between the college and world of work. Government agencies, social service organizations, and companies invest in an important community resource: the student. The employer is required to assist with the intern’s personal growth, career, skills, and leadership development, which makes it different than a part-time job. Contact: Holly Coffin, Internship Coordinator, (630) 617-6457 or hollyc@elmhurst.edu

Mentoring
Professionals can assist Elmhurst College students by providing informational interviews and shadowing experiences. The purpose of these experiences is to provide students opportunities to interact with professionals in careers which interest them in order to help them discern which career would be a good fit. A professional could also become a mentor to an Elmhurst College student. Mentoring is a one-on-one relationship between a student (protégé) and a professional (mentor) in the student’s field of interest. The goal of the mentoring relationship is to help the protégé develop the personal and professional skills necessary for success in the world of work. To become a mentor, a training and development session is required through the Center for Professional Excellence (CPE). Contact: Julie Nearing, Coordinator of Education Enrichment Programs, (630) 617-3188 or jnearing@elmhurst.edu

Workshops
Professionals are invited to interact with students and share expertise on various career exploration panels and facilitating seminars that pertain to career development, e.g., resume writing, career search, and interviewing. Contact: Peggy Killian, Director of Career Education, (630) 617-3625 or peggyk@elmhurst.edu

Professionals and employers are encouraged to advertise employment opportunities (part-time and full-time) and internships on this site. Contact: Annette Coduto, Employer Relations Specialist, (630) 617-3190 or annettec@elmhurst.edu
