About the Department
At Elmhurst, art students develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world by studying the language of visual forms. Here's what you'll find at Elmhurst:
- A personal learning environment. Our faculty encourage close working relationships with students in and out of the classroom. In our supportive atmosphere, you can explore and take creative risks.
- Professional faculty. Each member of Elmhurst's art faculty is an active professional artist. Our professors' work has been displayed at galleries and museums across the world, and their published writings are highly respected.
- Plenty of options. Our art programs include five programs of visual studies leading to the bachelor's degree: bachelor of fine arts, studio art, art business, art education certification, and interdisciplinary communication studies.
- A great location. We're just 16 miles from the rich resources of downtown Chicago. Courses often incorporate field trips to the city's world-class museums and galleries.
- Professional experience. Art students at Elmhurst have plenty of opportunities to display their work and to gain working experience. In addition to taking on a variety of internships, students design MiddleWestern Voice, our art and literary journal, and The Leader, the College's award-winning student newspaper.
Our students find careers in graphic design, web site design, as art teachers, or as art directors with corporations. Many go on to graduate school.
