K-12 Art Education Certification
Elmhurst offers one of the area's few art education teacher certification programs. Students may prepare to teach at the elementary, middle/junior high, or high school level with K-12 certification. The art education program prepares you as an artist in your own right, and as a future teacher who will help your students develop their own visual literacy.
The art education program is certified by the State of Illinois Board of Education. It is essential that students interested in this field identify themselves as early as possible to Mary Lou Stewart, director of the art education program, and to the education department and confer regularly with their advisors.

Students with exceptional undergraduate qualifications or with post-graduate education in art may petition the director of the art education program to waive or modify this requirement.
