Specialty Majors

Requirements for a specialty major after completion of business administration program:
Students completing a specialty major receive a bachelor of science (B.S.) degree with a major in the specialty. Students who wish to major in a specialty area in the Business Department who have completed the business administration curriculum may subsequently complete one specialty major in the following manner:

  • Finance: BUS 340 Business Finance and the five specialty courses as listed in the Catalog for the finance major.
  • International Business: Additional courses selected with the approval of the Director of International Business Program.
  • Management: Five specialty courses as listed in the Catalog for the management major.
  • Marketing: Four marketing specialty courses as listed in the Catalog plus BUS 430 Marketing Problems, the capstone course.
  • Transportation and Logistics Management: Five courses as listed in the Catalog for the transportation and logistics management major.

A grade of 'C' or better is required for all courses in the specialty area.

Students who complete the business administration curriculum and wish to declare a specialty major must file a change of major form with the School for Professional Studies. Contact the Director of Adult Student Support Services. At that time, a transcript evaluation for the specialty major will be completed by the CBE major evaluator, which will note any specialty requirements satisfied by previous college courses. Students are required to complete one-half the courses in the specialty major at Elmhurst College.

Once business administration students complete the program, they may take Catalog courses that are not equivalent to the business administration course content. The following courses duplicate course content and should not be taken by business administration students:

  • BUS 230 Principles of Marketing
  • BUS 250 Management Theory and Practice
  • BUS 261 Financial Accounting
  • BUS 262 Managerial Accounting
  • BUS 271 Introduction to Global Business
  • BUS 340 Business Finance
  • BUS 357 (MTH 365) Operations Research I
  • BUS 456 Strategic Management in Global Environment
  • MTH 345 Elementary Statistics

Requirements for the economics major after completing business administration program:
Economics is not considered a specialty. It is a second major when put with the specialty or business administration major at Elmhurst College. Students, who wish to complete a major in economics after business administration program, and thus graduate with the double major, must complete the following courses:

  • ECO 414 Microeconomics
  • ECO 416 Macroeconomics
  • Two additional upper level (300/400) courses in economics
