Frank Mittermeyer

As director of the Center for the Health Professions and chair of the Health Professions Committee, Dr. Mittermeyer provides overall leadership for the Center. A member of the National Association of Advisors to the Health Professions (NAAHP), he serves as a general advisor for students pursuing health care careers, with particular emphasis on those interested in medicine. He often mentors students conducting research in his area of expertise, medical microbiology and epidemiology. A recipient of the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching, Dr. Mittermeyer is also a member of the American Society for Microbiology and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Cheryl Leoni
Associate Director, Center for the Health Professions
Premedicine, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy and Allied Health Advisor
M.A., University of Iowa

She holds a degree in social work with a concentration in gerontology. Having an extensive knowledge of all aspects of student development, she actively involves health care students in volunteer and clinical opportunities, oversees student practicum experiences, and advises students. Ms. Leoni has received several special honors at the College, including Organization Advisor of the Year and the Administrative Excellence Award. Erica Ashauer
Coordinator, Center for the Health Professions
Premedicine, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy and Allied Health Advisor

Ms. Ashauer came to work in the CHP after developing a strong background in student development. She advises students on professional school preparations in addition to coordinating programs and activities for the Center.  She also implements the recommendation committee process as students prepare to apply to professional schools and assists students with resume writing and interview skills. She is a member of the National Association of Advisors to the Health Professions and advises allied health students. She can be reached in ashauere@elmhurst.edu.

Exercise Science

Charlie Goehl
Professor of Kinesiology and Department Chair
M.Ed., University of Illinois at Chicago

The author of several published articles on teaching and coaching, Professor Goehl has given numerous presentations related to best practices in teaching and coaching at local, state, national, and international conferences. In the past four years, he has received funding from several agencies to support his research and teaching interests. Professor Goehl has a background as head baseball and football coach at Elmhurst College and teaches Sports Skills, Coaching Theory, and Personal Health. He leads workshops on personal health-related topics, including nutrition, and also works as a personal trainer. He can be reached at charlieg@elmhurst.edu.

Cheri Carrico
Professor, Communication Arts & Sciences

Dr. Carrico is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. A recipient of the Elmhurst College President's Award for Excellence in Teaching, she teaches courses ranging from Early Childhood Speech and Language Development to Language Development to Clinical Methods and Diagnostic Procedures. She has received the Advisor of the Year Award for the National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA). She can be reached at cheric@elmhurst.edu.

Marjorie Goodban
Professor, Communication Arts & Sciences
Ph.D., University of Illinois, Urbana

Among Dr. Goodban's favorite courses are Stuttering, Multicultural Communication, and Clinical Instruction in Speech-Language Pathology. Her research interests include intercultural communication and fluency disorders. She can be reached at marjorie@elmhurst.edu.

Jan Strom

Professor
Dr. Strom has an extensive leadership experience, with an emphasis on leadership in nursing education. She has held leadership positions at the undergraduate and graduate level, focusing on continuous improvement in nursing education that results in excellence in nursing practice. Eugene Losey
Professor of Chemistry
Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Optometry, and Pre-Podiatry Advisor
Ph.D., Michigan State University

Dr. Losey has been recognized as an extraordinary educator throughout his tenure at Elmhurst. The only two-time recipient of the Elmhurst College President's Award for Excellence in Teaching ever, he also was the first holder of the T. W. Mueller Endowed Chair at Elmhurst. He teaches Organic and Biochemistry, and his research interests include synthetic organic chemistry and chemical education. He is a campus leader who serves on a variety of committees and councils, and he specializes in advising students pursuing pharmacy, dentistry, optometry, and podiatry.
