About the Program

Are you looking to launch a career in the growing field of Computer Information Systems? Perhaps you're established in your career but want to update your skills. Or, you may be managing workers and need courses that will keep you abreast of fast-changing technology.

Then you'll want to learn more about the Elmhurst College master's degree in Computer Information Systems. This program develops your leadership qualities while expanding your computing expertise. You'll acquire the hardware and software knowledge needed to design, program, implement, and administer a computer network system within an organization.

The program is available completely online through the Elmhurst College Online Center or in a hybrid format combining on-campus and online coursework. 

In this program, you will:

  • Gain expertise in structuring distributed database systems across a network.
  • Enhance your communication skills, problem-solving skills, and sense of the importance of network communications to the information needs of today’s society.
  • Develop an understanding, appreciation, and respect for ethical issues that are interwoven into the widespread sharing of data and information on both national and international scales.
  •  Learn the ins and outs of WANs, LANs, application and Web programming, distributed databases, network security, and client/ server systems.
  • Develop an understanding of the fundamentals of organization management. 
  • Analyze—and meet—the technical needs of working organizations.
  • Master the theory and practice of team building. 

Prerequisites
Students in this program come from a variety of backgrounds. If you do not hold an undergraduate degree in CS/IS or related work experience, the program coordinator may recommend that you complete prerequisite courses. You will need general knowledge of computer programming and proficiency in a programming language, especially VB.NET.
