Graduate Certificates in CIS

Elmhurst College offers two graduate-level certificates in computer information systems. Both programs can be completed either on-campus through hybrid learning or entirely online through the Elmhurst College Online Center. Whether you choose to pursue application development or network administration, a certificate from Elmhurst will take you where you want to go.

Graduate Certificate in Application Development
The graduate certificate in application development utilizes existing application development courses from the CIS program and also includes a project management and organizational behavior course.

Five courses are required:

  • CS 501 Windows Application Development
  • CS 530 Database Systems and Programming
  • CS 550 Web Development
  • BUS 551 Organizational Behavior
  • MBA 509 Project Management

Students who complete the five courses for credit will receive the graduate certificate in application development, or may complete the additional five courses (CS 504, CS 511, CS 545, CS 570 and CS 575) required to earn a master of science in computer information systems.

Graduate Certificate in Network Administration
The graduate certificate in network administration utilizes existing network administration courses from the CIS program and also includes a project management course.

Five courses are required:

  • CS 504 Computer Network Concepts
  • CS 511 Local Area Networks
  • CS 545 Wide Area Networks
  • CS 570 Internetworking Technologies
  • MBA 509 Project Management

Students who complete the five courses for credit will receive a graduate certificate in network administration, or may complete the additional five courses (CS 501, CS 530, CS 550, CS 575 and BUS 551) required to earn a master of science in computer information systems. 

Admission
To apply for the graduate certificate in application development or the graduate certificate in network administration, complete the application for graduate admission and follow the instructions for non-degree students. If you wish to complete the additional five courses to earn the master of science in computer information systems, you must apply following all of the admission requirements for the master's degree program.
