Minors in the Department of Communication Arts & Sciences
Because communication skills are critical to just about every area of human endeavor, Elmhurst offers minors in communication studies, dance, organizational communication, theatre, and speech-language pathology.
Neither COM 492 nor COM 468 can be counted toward a minor. The department chair must approve any exceptions.

A minor in communication studies consists of any four courses from the communication studies major.
Minor in Dance
A minor in dance requires the successful completion of 4.5 course credits in the dance curriculum including:
THE 221 Dance Appreciation
THE 421 Choreography of Dance
Five half course technique classes, with at least two at the 400 level from the following:
THE 302 Ballet
THE 303 Jazz Dance
THE 304 Tap Dance
THE 305 Social Dance and Period Styles
THE 402 Advanced Ballet
THE 403 Advanced Jazz
THE 404 Advanced Tap
THE 405 Advanced Social Dance and Period Styles
and
AMT 101-402 Applied Theatre: MusicalTheatre
or
THE 352 Special Topics (in dance)
or
THE 208 Middle Eastern Dance
Minor in Organizational Communication
A minor in organizational communication consists of the following courses:
COM 316 Communication Theory
COM 319 Business and Professional Communication
COM 320 Organizational Communication
One elective from the organizational communication core curriculum
Minor in Theatre
A minor in theatre consists of two terms of either Theatre Practicum or Musical Theatre Practicum, for credit or non-credit, in addition to any four courses from the theatre major.
Minor in Speech-Language Pathology
A minor in speech-language pathology consists of any four courses from the speech-language pathology major.
