About the Department
Few skills are as important as the ability to communicate. Actors depend on them; employers evaluate them in job candidates. Everyone—children and adults, stroke victims and people who have suffered hearing loss—needs them.
At Elmhurst, you can choose from seven majors in the Department of Communication Arts & Sciences. Here’s some of what you’ll find in each:
- A personal learning environment. Our student-faculty ratio of 13 to 1 ensures that you’ll develop close relationships with your professors. A caring and dedicated professor, not a teaching assistant, teaches every course here—and provides the one-on-one advising you need.
- Great academics. U.S.News & World Report ranks Elmhurst among the top 10 comprehensive colleges in the Midwest. Our communications programs blend theory and practice in a dynamic, broad curriculum that will prepare you to succeed.
- A jump-start on your career. Communication majors graduate from Elmhurst with skills and experience. You might do an internship with WGN, CLTV, or a Chicago-area theatre; work in the on-campus radio station; or work with patients at Elmhurst’s Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. With such strong credentials, it’s no wonder our graduates land great jobs in fields such as theatre, human resources, public relations, and broadcasting.
