[ Countdown to College ]
Decide what's important
A few key questions to answer
As you sort through all those college materials, think about your goals, ambitions, and interests. Whether or not your career goals are clear, you might want to pursue a particular interest — so you might choose a college with a women's volleyball team, say, or a great journalism program or music department.
Here are some other questions to consider:
- What subjects would you consider majoring in?
- Do you want to be near a big city, or out amid the cornfields and apple orchards?
- Do internships or international study interest you?

Give it some thought, and talk it over with the people who know you and care about you. Then go for the college you think will best help you pursue your interests and meet your goals.
And don't forget to meet regularly with your guidance counselor. He or she can help you choose a college that meets your needs, gather information about scholarships and application deadlines, and help make sure you're on track to get into your college of choice.
