At-Large Graduate Courses

Certified 04 early childhood education teachers who may be interested in obtaining the Early Childhood Special Education Approval on their 04 teaching certificate or individuals who may be interested in getting credentialed in the Illinois Birth–Three  early intervention system as developmental therapists can take the required courses needed as graduate students at-large thru this masters program. Course requirements for each of these follow:

Courses for the Early Intervention Birth–Three Developmental Therapist Credential:

  • MEC 505 Infant Development: Typical and Atypical (2 hours), January Term
  • MEC 511 Working with Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities and their Families (1hour), January Term
  • MEC 515 Observation and Assessment of Infants and Toddlers with Special Needs (3 hours), Spring Term
  • MEC 520 Early Intervention Methods and Team Practices (3 hours), Spring Term

Courses for Early Childhood Special Approval on the 04 Teaching Certificate:

  • MEC 502 Early Childhood Speech and Language Development (3 hours), Fall Term
  • MEC 555 Child, Family & Community (2 hours),  Summer Term
  • MEC 560 Observation and Assessment of the Preschool Child with Special Needs (3hours), Fall Term
  • MEC 565 Early Childhood Special Education Methods and Term Practices (3 hours), Fall Term

To enroll as a graduate student at-large, you must contact the Office of Graduate Admission and complete a one-page application. Approval of the graduate program director is also required.
