Broadfield Requirements for Secondary Social Science Licensure

Students seeking licensure in history, geography, economics, political science, or sociology/anthropology will be licensed in broadfield social science with one of these subjects as their designation. This licensure allows them to teach any of the social sciences at the regular level and their designation at the A.P. and honors level. For requirements of each specific program, see the teacher licensure officer in the Department of Education and the coordinator of secondary social science education, Mr. Daniel Jares.

Students must take the following courses (or transfer equivalents) in addition to requirements in the major and core courses in education:

ECO 211 Introduction to Macroeconomics
GEO 101 Introduction to Meteorology
GEO 112 Regional Study of the Developing  World
HIS 116 Survey of Non-Western Civilization II
HIS 301 American History before 1865 or HIS 302 The United States from 1865 to the Present
POL 150 Introduction to Politics
POL 201 American Federal Government
PSY 210 Introduction to Psychological Science
SEC 425 Teaching Social Studies in Middle and Secondary Schools (Half course)  
SOC 211 Society and the Individual–Introductory Sociology
