Who May Apply?

ELSA is designed for adults between the ages of 18 and 25 who have:

  • Learning disabilities that would prevent a student from succeding in a traditional degree-seeking program
  • Cognitive disabilities
  • Developmental disabilities

An ELSA student’s intellectual disabilities may be accompanied by physical or sensory disabilities.

Applicants to ELSA must have earned a high school diploma or certificate, or both. An ideal candidate for ELSA is a student who is interested in developing his or her skills at functional literacy, ability to use technology, and capacity for employment and independent living.

To qualify for ELSA, a student must have sufficient emotional skills and capacity for independence, be able to read and write at the third-grade level, and enjoy strong family support of the program’s objectives.
