An English major at Elmhurst can take you just about anywhere. Whether you’re looking for a career as a writer, a professor of English, an attorney, or a manager, our program will prepare you to succeed.

That’s because we help you build the skills that are necessary in any field—skills like critical thinking, problem solving, professional writing, and how to succeed in a diverse society—and then help you translate those skills into a career.

Elmhurst English graduates have gone on to further study in a variety of graduate programs, including the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, University of Colorado at Boulder, and Washington State University. Others have pursued careers in secondary education as well as editorial positions at West Suburban Living and Princeton University Press.
