Standard Program Sequence
Students are required to take three courses in literature, three in writing, and the two-semester capstone sequence, for a total of eight credits. Courses in writing and literature are offered in Fall, Spring, and Summer Terms. The first course in the capstone sequence is offered in the Fall Term and the second in the Spring Term each year.
The standard program sequence for the master’s degree requires 21 months to complete. Over the Fall and Spring and Summer Terms of the first year, students will take four courses—two in literature and two in composition. In the Fall Term of the second year, students will take either a literature or composition course and the first class in the capstone sequence. In the Spring Term, students will take a literature or composition course and the second class in the capstone sequence.
Alternate Program Sequence
A student may deviate from the standard sequence with permission of the program director, if the course offerings allow the student to complete all program requirements within five years.
