Requirements for the Major The Spanish major consists of seven courses (28 hours) beginning at the 300-level, which should include at least one international education experience. The following upper-division courses are required and should be taken in the following sequence:
- One grammar/composition
- One conversation (or business Spanish)
- Spanish culture
- Spanish American culture
- Two literature
- One elective in Spanish
FL 221 The Nature of Language is recommended as an additional course for all foreign language majors. Foreign language majors are urged to complete requirements for a second major as well.
Students can complete the requirements for the major even if they have not studied the language before coming to Elmhurst. Those who have had previous exposure to a foreign language are given a placement exam to determine the proper course level.
