Elmhurst’s major in geography links the social and natural sciences, and offers a broad foundation in geography and geosciences. The major offers an interdisciplinary curriculum, combined with plenty of hands-on experiences.
The applied geospatial technologies major is a cutting edge program where student learn to think spatially, solve problems from a spatial perspective and critically analyze situations. Elmhurst College is the first liberal arts-based institution in the U.S. to develop such a program, which is based on the U.S. Department of Labor's 2006 declaration of geospatial technologies as one of the three emerging, sustainable industries of the 21st century.
The department also offers minors in geography and GIS and a program leading to teacher certification.
