Financial Planning

Many students feel overwhelmed by the costs of a graduate education, but a variety of financial assistance programs are available to help make it affordable. Grants and loans are an important source of support for graduate students. This aid may come from the institution, a state, the federal government, or your employer.

Here's what to do:

  • In the late winter and early spring before starting graduate school, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Explore fellowships, scholarships, grants, and teaching assistantships. Be sure to check deadlines for assistantships and scholarships.
  • Many employers offer financial assistance to employees seeking further education. Check with your employer for tuition remission programs.
