Reflections on a Tragedy
A message from Elmhurst President Bryant L. Cureton on the heartrending events at Northern Illinois University.
Posted on: February 15, 2008
To the Elmhurst College community:
Elmhurst College mourns with our friends and colleagues at Northern Illinois University following the terrible tragedy on their campus. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who suffer.
The safety and welfare of all members of our College community are always a primary concern for us. In this time of shared sadness, I encourage everyone to look after one another. I also ask you to use the support that is available on our campus from many sources, including the Office of Student Affairs, the Office of the Chaplain, and Counseling Services.
Counseling services are available to our students through the Wellness Center. In addition, please feel free to call our Residence Life staff at (630) 617-3150.
The response to the dreadful events at Northern Illinois is a reminder of the power and strength that is found only in true communities. In the days and months ahead, let us draw upon the strength of our own community as we attempt to come to terms with this tragedy.
Bryant L. Cureton President
