Employment Policies

Elmhurst College is an equal opportunity employer.  We interview applicants based on the match between our job requirements and the person’s education, skills, and work history.  To maintain a safe environment for students and visitors, we verify our finalists’ work history and run security checks on candidates who have access to residence halls, carry keys to certain College buildings, handle cash, or drive College vehicles.

The College documents all positions through job descriptions.  The job descriptions outline the tasks associated with each position.  They also document the education, skills, and experience required for the job.

The College posts most positions internally to give current employees an opportunity to change jobs or move-up.  If we fail to find internal applicants appropriate for a position, we advertise our positions outside the College.  Each application (internal and external) is compared to the job description and the top three or four matches are selected for interviews.

The interview process generally includes interviews with several persons, some In Human Resources and some in the hiring department.  Since we interview and check work history so thoroughly, the interview process may take several weeks.  Once the College selects and hires the finalist, other candidates who interviewed are notified of the position’s close by mail.   Candidates who are not hired should always feel free to apply for other open positions in the future.

Staff Development
Once hired, one can take advantage of the College’s staff development programs.  These programs teach our office support software, and provide skills for personal and professional development.
