Checking in at Elmhurst College
Incoming international students must check in with the Assistant Director of International Student Services immediately upon arriving on campus. Please bring your completed Individual Student Record, I-20, passport, and I-94. Also bring your completed Hometown Information Record so that we can inform your local newspaper(s) and secondary school about your special activities and honors.

Maintaining Your Visa Status

  • International students are required to maintain current information in the Office of  International Student Services  throughout their time at Elmhurst College. Complete the SEVIS Event Form to report any changes in personal information such as name, address, phone number, employment status, school transfers, or dependent information.
     
  • Students who have completed their studies and are in Optional Practical Training should complete the  Post-Completion OPT SEVIS Event Form to notify the Assistant Director of International Student Services of any changes in personal information such as name, address, phone number, employment status, school transfers, or dependent information.
     
  • Students who anticipate travel outside of the United States should download the Travel Recommended Procedure in order to simplify reentry to the United States.
     
  • Prior approval from the Assistant Director of International Student Services is required before a student can drop below full time. Complete the Request for Reduced Course Load Form to request authorization to drop below full time.
     
  • Students who are leaving Elmhurst College and the United States either temporarily or permanently should complete the SEVIS Event Form so that the Assistant Director of International Student Services can adjust or end their F-1 SEVIS record.
     
  • Students transferring from another institution who have been admitted to Elmhurst College should complete the Transfer-in Form for F-1 Students. 
     
  • Current Elmhurst College international students who are transferring to another institution should download the International Student Transfer-Out Checklist.

Employment and Practical Training

  • Your campus employer should complete the On-campus Employment Offer Form to verify that you have been offered a job on campus.
     
  • Anyone working in the United States is required to have a Social Security number.  Download the Social Security Aplication Checklist to begin the process.  NOTE: You must have a written job offer to be eligible for a social security number!
  • Undergraduate students wishing to participate in Curricular Practical Training (internships) must receive prior authorization from the Assistant Director of International Student Services. Download the Curricular Practical Training Recommended Procedure to begin the process.
     
  • Students desiring to participate in Optional Practical Training MUST apply prior to the end to their final semester of study. Download the Optional Practical Training Recommended Procedure to begin the process.
     
  • Students applying for Optional Practical Training or Economic Hardship Employment should download the Employment Authorization Document Recommended Procedure in order to take the necessary steps.
