Special Opportunities

As a kinesiology student at Elmhurst, you'll benefit from a high degree of individual attention from top-notch scholars, combined with exciting opportunities not usually found at an intimate liberal arts institution.

Cool Tools
you'll get plenty of hands-on experience with today's software programs and other teaching tools. For example:

  • Adam is a computer software program that enables students to dissect the human body onscreen. It's edifying—and fun.
  • BEST is a computer tool we use in our pedagogy classes to analyze teacher behavior.
  • The Cadaver Lab, part of the kinesiology and human physiology courses, offers a rare opportunity to get a close look at muscles, tendons, and bones.
  • MicroFit is a state-of-the-art computer program that assesses fitness using online measurement devices controlled by a computer.
  • The Nasiff CardioStress System is a sophisticated assessment tool equipped with a 12-lead EKG for determining cardiac fitness.
  • The ParvoMedics TrueOne® 2400 Metabolic Measurement System is a compact, integrated metabolic measurement system for cardiopulmonary stress testing, indirect calorimetry, and maximal O2 consumption measurement.
  • The Noramco NF4616 Super Tread is a commercial, high-speed treadmill utilized for a variety of athletic performance assessments.

Real-World Experience
You'll complete internships at schools, hospitals, corporations and organizations. You might participate in the Special Olympics program, or organize a team-building activity at an elementary school. You'll build the strongest possible foundation for success in professional life. More about internships...

A Collaborative Approach
If you plan to pursue a health-related career such as physical or occupational therapy, you'll benefit from our ground-breaking Dr. Dennis J. Patterson Center for Health Professions. The Center brings together students from across the health-care spectrum for workshops, internships, mentoring opportunities, seminars, focused advising, and collaborative research. It's an innovative approach that leads to strong teamwork skills and a clear understanding of each component of patient care.
