Careers

The current shortage of mathematically educated men and women in the workforce is causing growing concern. A firm command of mathematics gives our graduates a considerable competitive advantage.

Our alumni enjoy success in a variety of exciting, rewarding career fields as accountants, actuaries, college and university professors, consultants, computer programmers, comptrollers, data processing managers, economists, engineers, entrepreneurs, government employees, industrial mathematicians, insurance executives, investment managers, middle school and high school teachers, physicians, physicists, sales managers, and systems analysts, to name a few.

We are immensely proud of all our alumni. Here are just a few:

  • Dr. Susan Brown is chair of the mathematics department of York Community High School; UCSMP Algebra I and Pre-calculus writing team member; former president of the Chicago Metropolitan Mathematics Club; former Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics Board member; and a member of the editorial panel of Mathematics Teacher.
  • Dr. Dane R. Camp is a mathematics teacher at New Trier High School, Winnetka, Illinois; the winner of several teaching awards; author/co-author of numerous articles; and speaker at local, state, national, and international conferences.
  • Dr. Terrence D. Lagerlund is associate professor of neurology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. His research involves mathematical analysis of electroencephalographic data, especially EEG source localization with applications to better localization of epileptic seizures. He is also a recipient of the Southern Electroencephalographic Society Caton award.
  • Joe Rohde is a consulting actuary with Mercer Human Resource Consulting in Chicago. He is also a fellow of the Society of Actuaries, specializing in Group Health Benefits. A member of an Elmhurst College CCIW Championship football team, he finished 3rd in the nation for kickoff returns for Division III colleges.

Your mathematics degree from Elmhurst College will open doors to a wealth of careers. Whatever career path you choose to take, we will give you the tools you need to get where you want to go.
