Hundreds of students, faculty, staff and community members celebrated the holiday season recently at Elmhurst College’s traditional Festival of Lessons and Carols.
An annual Elmhurst tradition since 1961, the Festival consists of nine Scriptural readings that tell the story of the birth of the Messiah, interspersed with choral music and congregational singing.
The Elmhurst College Concert Choir, Chamber Singers and Women’s Chorus performed classic carols as well as contemporary arrangements. Student instrumentalists accompanied the choirs. This year’s Lessons and Carols drew capacity crowds to Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel for services at 4:00 p.m. and at 7:00 p.m. on December 5. In honor of the occasion, the chapel was decorated with festive holiday trees, poinsettias and candlelight.
