What does it mean for Gregor Samsa, his family, his life, when he wakes up one morning to find he has been transformed into a cockroach? Metamorphosis, a stage adaptation of Franz Kafka’s classic exploration of alienation, opens at the Elmhurst College Mill Theatre on November 29.
Steven Berkoff brings a unique physical style to his adaptation that combines mime, movement and text to create a highly stylized piece of theatre. Director Joel Huff takes full advantage of that in his production.
“As a professor, I wanted to explore physicality and movement with the students, and physical theatre, in a way they are not used to,” Huff said.
Metamorphosis will run from Thursday through Saturday, November 29 through December 1; and Thursday through Saturday, December 6-8. All performances begin at 8:00 p.m., in the Mill Theatre, 253 Walter St., Elmhurst. General admission, $7; seniors, Elmhurst College faculty and staff, $6; students, $5.
