Jill Morgenthaler, Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, will come to campus to speak to students about her candidacy and about the process of running for congress.
Morgenthaler defeated Stan Jagla in the February primary for the 6th District, which covers parts of DuPage and Cook counties and includes Elmhurst. She will take on Republican incumbent Peter Roskam in the November general election. Her talk, followed by a question and answer session, will take place on Monday, May 5, at 7:00 p.m., in the Schaible Science Center’s Illinois Hall.
A retired U.S. Army Reserve Colonel, Morgenthaler currently serves as the deputy chief of staff for public safety in Illinois. From 2005 to 2007, she served as Illinois’ Homeland Security Advisor, where she implemented the state’s first uniform radio system for first responders, enabling state, local, and campus authorities to better coordinate their efforts.
Morgenthaler began her military career in 1976, and has served in Bosnia, Germany, South Korea, and Iraq. Prior to her work for the State of Illinois, Morgenthaler spent 14 years working at Argonne National Laboratory, where she served as emergency response manager.
Morgenthaler’s talk is sponsored by the Elmhurst College Students for Political Awareness. In accordance with federal guidelines, Elmhurst College and the Students for Political Awareness also invited Morgenthaler’s opponent, incumbent Peter Roskam, to campus. He spoke at the College on April 21.
