On Thursday, May 8, Elmhurst College will hold its sixth annual Research and Performance Showcase. This event spotlights the very best work of Elmhurst College students, and offers a broad spectrum of scholarly, artistic, and research-oriented presentations.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 3:15 p.m. in Irion Hall’s Buik Recital Hall (190 Prospect Ave., Elmhurst) with opening remarks by Elmhurst College President Bryant Cureton and featured presentations by Elmhurst College students.
This year’s opening ceremony will include musical performances (Ayn Brendel on alto saxophone, Eric Morong on marimba) as well as scholarly presentations (Eddie Breitweiser presenting “The Creation of a Collaborative Multi-Disciplinary Electro-Acoustic Musical Work,” Laura Yurs presenting “The IMF and World Bank: The Failure of Classical Economic Liberalism in Developing Nations and Visions for the Future from a Dependency and Feminist Perspective,” Kurt Dietrick presenting “Modern Golf Club Design,” and Mackenzie Harms presenting “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland: A Logical Analysis.”)
Following the opening ceremony, the 2008 Showcase will continue with oral presentations in Circle Hall from 4:45 - 6:00 p.m. and poster presentations in the Frick Center 6:00 -7:00 p.m.
Aided by a grant from national academic honor society Phi Kappa Phi, the Elmhurst College Showcase encourages students to strive for excellence, and then to display that excellence to those outside their academic disciplines.
Projects on display will include research posters, oral presentations, PowerPoint presentations, musical and dance performances, and more, and will cover a multitude of topics.
