Scholar of Racial Inequities to Speak at Elmhurst College

Shaun Harper examines the enduring racial inequities in American higher education. A professor at the University of Pennsylvania, where he is director of the Center for the Study of Race and Equity in Education, he is the author of 10 books and more than 80 academic articles on race, gender, college access and student engagement.

On Wednesday, February 12, Professor Harper will present We Shall Overcome … When?, this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Intercultural Lecture at Elmhurst College.

Harper is on the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education, Africana Studies, and Gender Studies. His research on race and gender in education and social contexts examines topics ranging from the achievement of undergraduate men of color to college student engagement, and has been featured in publications such as The Journal of Higher Education, Review of Research in Education, Teachers College Record and The Review of Higher Education.

Harper’s talk will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, in the Founders Lounge of the Frick Center. Admission is $10 for the general public and free for Elmhurst College students, faculty, staff and alumni. Tickets are available online.
