Chicago native Max Sansing is a painter, muralist and graphic design artist whose bold, personal work has been displayed in art galleries and at special events in Chicago, New York and elsewhere.
Elmhurst College will host Sansing’s “Here We Go” exhibition through Saturday, March 1, as part of the College’s celebration of Black History Month. A reception for Sansing will be held on Wednesday, February 19.
Sansing was raised on Chicago’s South Side, in the Avalon Park community. His parents were artists, and he came to love painting at an early age. Sansing taught himself oil painting and later completed his formal training at the American Academy of Art. He has expanded his talents into creating murals across Chicago and translating art into electronic media as a graphic design artist. He also is co-founder of RK Design, an art consulting group that specializes in mural and graphic design.
“Max Sansing is an exciting emerging artist who has a very interesting way of combining his graffiti art background and his training in academic painting,” says Suellen Rocca, curator and director of exhibits at Elmhurst College. “His portraits are bold, technically elegant and full of meaningful, personal content.”
The “Here We Go” exhibition can be viewed days and evenings in the Founders Lounge of the Frick Center until Saturday, March 1. A reception with the artist will be held on Wednesday, February 19, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Founders Lounge, with an artist talk at 5:00 p.m. Both the exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. The Black History Exhibition is one of about a dozen art shows that Elmhurst College hosts each academic year in two campus venues. In addition, the College’s A.C. Buehler Library permanently houses the College’s unparalleled collection of Chicago Imagist and Abstractionist Art, which explores the vibrant, often outrageous, yet precisely crafted works of Chicago artists between 1950 and the present.
