The Journey Continues Program
The Journey Continues academic and field experience program supports faith-motivated adults of diverse religious backgrounds to discern their callings to a life’s work for the common good. As one begins or continues their discernment through exploration and self-discovery by participating in workshops, lectures, and discussions.
The following workshops are offered:
Service and Society
- Serving Society: Discuss the impact that religion has in your life as you discover new and unique ways to serve others both personally and professionally.
- Living and Working for Service: Investigate how and where your gifts can be utilized from a biblical context.
- What is your Calling?: Explore, affirm, and identify where you are in your calling from a career and spiritual perspective.
- Answering your Calling: Take your discernment to the next level and examine the various careers while maximizing your gifts.
Biblical Perspectives
- Biblical Survey: Explore the Old and New testaments.
- Book Club: Examine various texts and discuss the biblical and spiritual context in relation to current issues.
- World View and Religion: Acquire knowledge about the various religions and the commonalities amongst each religion.
- Faith and Culture: Living a biblically sound life while exploring the impact one’s culture has on their faith perspective.
- Leading Bible Study: Learn about the various ways in which Bible study can be facilitated.
Skill Development
- Networking Skills: Learn to enhance what you already know about networking and learn new techniques to networking.
- Resume Writing: Come prepared to update or create a working resume. Learn what employers are looking at when you submit your resume.
- Business Etiquette: Refresh your knowledge on business etiquette.
- Interviewing Skills: Be prepared for an interview. Learn about the various types of interviewing and how to adapt to each situation type quickly and effectively.
- Computer Skills 101: Learn how to use Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel.
- Interpersonal Communications: Learn how to work with various groups and individuals. Share your examples and lessons learned. Identify how to deal with conflict.
Assessments
- Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI): A personality inventory designed to identify your preferences. Learn how to use your preference as you discern your calling both professionally and spiritually.
- Becoming a Visionary Leader: Begin to take that vision from conception to implementation and articulate your vision to key stakeholders and get their buy-in.
- Strong Interest Inventory: An assessment designed to assist in identifying one’s interests as part of their career discernment process.
- Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation-Behavior (FIRO-B): An assessment designed to assist one in understanding their needed for inclusion, affection, and control.
- Leadership Styles Inventory: Identify and understand your leadership style preferences and how to adapt to various teams and situation.
