About the Program

Philosophy
This program is designed to prepare professional nurses for clinical leadership. You will have the opportunity to select a role concentration as either clinical nurse leader or nurse educator. You will attain cutting-edge knowledge and master key skills to enhance your clinical practice with individuals and populations. Whether your focus is a clinical or educational setting, you will be prepared to be a leader in today’s complex health care environment. In this program, you will work closely with faculty in small, highly interactive classes. The program is designed to foster mentoring relationships with faculty and strong learning partnerships with fellow students.

Accreditation
The Master of Science in Nursing program at Elmhurst College is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Curriculum
In this 33-semester-hour program you will use theory, evidence, and clinical expertise to validate or challenge clinical nursing practice to promote optimal outcomes for individuals and populations. You will develop communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate work with diverse groups. Theoretical and practical skills in working within systems will be emphasized to support advanced nursing roles in health care and educational settings. Evaluation of interventions to promote optimal outcomes will be a focus, as well as the study of current issues in professional nursing. Interdisciplinary practice, which is critical in health professions education, is an emphasis in this program.

Faculty
You’ll study with the full-time faculty of the Deicke Center for Nursing Education—all of whom have practice and educational experience in their fields. You will find our faculty to be excellent role models for success in advanced roles in nursing. In our program, you will form partnerships with faculty in pursuit of higher education, and prepare to step with confidence into clinical leadership in nursing.

You’ll work with a dedicated faculty advisor to pursue the plan of study that fits your academic and professional goals.
