Nursing has a long, proud history as one of society’s most trusted professions. Combining leadership and communication skills with a deep scientific understanding, nursing is much more than just a helping profession. Today’s nurses are actively involved in every aspect of health care and management, from improving the quality of patient care in complex organizations to engaging in clinical prevention activities that optimize community health.
Students in nursing can count on being carefully mentored throughout their time at Elmhurst: The clinical faculty/student ratio is 1:8. That means students get to know each other and their faculty in a collaborative, productive environment. Every Elmhurst nursing faculty member is also a nurse who understands the profession’s demands. Experienced nursing instructors hold master’s degrees or doctorates in their fields and give students direct access to the latest clinical and theoretical developments in nursing.
Nurses with a liberal education and an ability to think broadly can find themselves in any number of important and challenging positions. Since 1975, Elmhurst College’s Deicke Center for Nursing Education has graduated more than 1,000 nurses who have gone on to professional practice. Nearly all of our graduates are employed within 12 months of graduation. Many go on to earn advanced degrees. Elmhurst graduates have an outstanding success rate with the national licensure examination.
