Through an innovative collaboration between Elmhurst College and Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, undergraduate and graduate nursing students at Elmhurst College will have access to a state-of-the-art Simulation Center located at the hospital. Through interactive learning, students build their clinical knowledge and skills through active, hands-on clinical scenarios.
This 4,600-square-foot laboratory and classroom space will create healthcare environments that represent inpatient, outpatient and community settings. Using simulation, students have the opportunity to practice protocols and procedures and experience intense scenarios safely and without the risk of harm to patients. Simulation/simulated learning enhances critical thinking, builds confidence and allows for reflection and evaluation of best practices outside of the high stakes high stress clinical environment.
The Elmhurst College Simulation Center at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital is scheduled to open in August 2014 and will be available to all nursing students beginning in the fall 2014 term.
