Deicke Center for Nursing Education

Academic Policies

The Deicke Center of Nursing Education baccalaureate program subscribes to the standards set by the Illinois Nurse  Practice Act and other published professional nursing standards. Nursing majors are accountable for standards and policies  outlined in the baccalaureate nursing program Student Handbook. Nursing majors who fail to comply with these standards  and policies are subject to the progressive discipline process outlined in the Handbook, up to and including dismissal from  the nursing program.

To graduate with a major in nursing, students must obtain a grade of C or better in all prerequisite, support, and nursing  courses; maintain an overall grade-point average of at least 2.75; adhere to published professional nursing standards; and  maintain the unique combinations of cognitive, affective, psychomotor, physical and social abilities required to satisfactorily  perform essential nursing functions.

During the clinical nursing sequence, the student must assume financial responsibility for  the health requirements and immunizations, uniforms, clinical and laboratory equipment, CPR certification, NCLEX-RN preparation supplies, health  insurance, criminal background checks, drug screenings, transportation to and from clinical agencies, and expenses related to  application for professional licensure. At Elmhurst College, students in the clinical nursing sequence must be covered by  professional liability insurance through Elmhurst College. The College will purchase such insurance for all nursing students, and the student will be billed by the Office of Student Accounts. Individual access to an insured car for community-based clinical experiences is required.
