About the Program

Philosophy
Our master in professional accountancy (MPA) will prepare you to become a professional accountant in auditing, corporate accounting, governmental accounting, consulting, or management. We integrate technical accounting knowledge with communication, research, and analytical skills. You will emerge from the program fully prepared for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination; the degree is also useful if you wish to obtain another professional accounting certification, such as the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).

Curriculum
This is a two-year, 10-course program. Classes cover a wide range of technical accounting skills and issues, as well as other aspects of business. If you completed any of the program’s six core courses as an undergraduate, you may substitute them with electives (with the MPA coordinator’s approval). To ensure that you can apply what you learn – right away – we offer internships every term.

Faculty
You’ll study with Elmhurst’s exceptional CBE faculty—no teaching assistants. You’ll work closely in small classes with professionals who know what it takes to succeed in the real world, because they’ve done it themselves.

Advising
You’ll work face-to-face with the program director to create the schedule of courses that fits your academic and professional goals.

Practicalities
You can complete the program on a part-time basis in two years. You’ll attend classes in the evening to accommodate your busy schedule. You’ll prepare to step with confidence into a position of leadership in your profession.
