John D'Emilio delivers the inaugural GLBT lecture.
Noted historian and National Book Award finalist John D'Emilio delivered the inaugural GLBT lecture in the Frick Center's Founders Lounge on August 15, 2008. His lecture was titled, "Homophobia and Social Justice", and his subject was Bayard Rustin. A mentor to Martin Luther King, Jr., and the principal political architect of the civil rights movement, Rustin was also an out gay man, who found himself shunned by the very movement he helped initiate and direct.
